Monet was born and raised in Ul'dah to two merchant parents who were more concerned with Monet being prepared to inherit their small business than with them pursuing their own interests. They grew up being taught to read and write and grew complacent, accepting that their lot in life was simply to do something they were unhappy with. Monet grew up keeping quiet and out of the way to please their parents expectations, leading to them not speaking much even when addressed. Monet also comes off as monotone and not very expressive partially due to this treatment.
Monet's parents moved to The Silver Bazaar in Western Thanalan after Monet turned 8. They had hopes that they could expand their business more away from the hold of the Moneterists being so close. Unfortunately, The Silver Bazaar was not the hub of sea-trade based commerce it used to be. Their business never flourished as they hoped. Shortly after this move Monet, unattended as was normal, encountered a wild Coeurl that attacked them. Their cries attracted a nearby adventurer who drove the animal away, saving Monet from further injury. They escaped with one less eye, and a new interest. Adventuring... Their parents seemed to pick up on Monet's restlessness, as they were often wandering outside, watching the sellswords that passed. Monet's parents withdraw and become even more hands-off, focusing more on their business, which causes Monet in turn to become more reserved. Monet began wearing their eyepatch to avoid their parents judgement about their scar.
This restlessness came to a head when the Calamity struck when Monet was 14. They developed the Echo, seeing visions of the brave people risking their lives to save Eorzea from Dalamud. Filled with fear, but determined to get away from home, Monet resolved that once they could leave home they would take up adventuring. And so they did, once they turned 19 they told their parents farewell, ending a rather lacking relationship, took up a new name, and journeyed back to Ul'dah to join the gladiators and learn how to fight.
WIP for the remainder, as their normal lore is just basically following MSQ with some embellishment lol. But i figure a WOL isn't exactly rp friendly. As of rn I'm thinking they still joined the scions, or their Free company partnered with them, but they weren't a key-player in all that. Shrugs!
