Lionel Flameheart
Race: Mixed-blood (Hyur Highlander father, Ishgardian Elezen mother) - Presently an Xaela
Birth Year: 1543
Origin: Village near Dusk Vigil, Coerthas Western Highlands
Early Life
Lionel was raised on a small farm during his childhood. His idyllic life ended at age 10 when his village was razed by dragons, killing his father. He and his mother fled to the Dusk Vigil, where she became a nurse and he trained under Ishgardian knights, vowing vengeance against dragonkind for killing his father and destroying his home.
Rise to Knighthood
By 20 (in 1563), Lionel had become a full-fledged knight, recognized by Count Edmont de Fortemps despite prejudices about his mixed heritage and low birth status. He chose to remain in the Western Highlands to hunt the dragons that destroyed his home, using his knowledge of the land to assist the knights of the Dusk Vigil.
Fall of the Dusk Vigil
At 33, a seasoned dragonslayer, Lionel—now called Nul—defended the Dusk Vigil against a brutal assault by the Dravanian Horde. Ordered to retreat to report the fate of the fortress, he reluctantly obeyed, leaving behind his dying comrades and mother. During his escape, he endured severe trauma and slew the dragon responsible for destroying his childhood village.
Aftermath and Transformation
He delivered his report to Ser Aymeric and Count Fortemps. Though accused of desertion, his honor was defended by both leaders. When asked how they could repay him, he requested that his name be listed among the dead. Burdened by guilt, he adopted the name Forsaken Nul, believing he had forsaken his comrades.
A New Purpose
Count Fortemps gave Nul a new mission: to travel Eorzea as a wandering monster hunter, helping others and finding peace beyond the war. Though Nul considered his true home lost, he accepted, beginning a new chapter—one not of vengeance, but of redemption and purpose.
Present Day
After many adventures and battles, Lionel now finds himself a branded criminal by Ishgard for threating to harm a dragon. He is now avoiding bounty hunters that seek to bring him in for a hefty reward. Despite this, Lionel continues to hunt beasts and help as many souls as he can.
