Basic Backstory
Eric was born at a tumultuous time in Norvrandt's history. Eulmore had undergone drastic change, making the areas surrounding Kholusia far more dangerous than ever before, as they had completely withdrawn support from outside the city. When Eric was just a baby, his family's village was hit by a swarm of sin eaters, and in the ensuing chaos, his mother and father were separated. Assuming Garrett was dead, and needing a safer place to raise her baby, Juliana travelled to the mainland by boat, journeying all the way to Lakeland and settling down in a small village a few malms from the Crystarium.
While living in Lakeland, Juliana became friends with most of the townsfolk, especially a slightly older highlander by the name of Varney. As Varney had lost his own son, he quickly took to taking care of Eric whenever Juliana was unable to. Unfortunately, when Eric was only 14, Juliana was killed by a sin eater on the way back from the markets. Varney stepped in as a parental figure, and raised the boy from then on, until they both decided to move to the Crystarium 6 years later.
Wanting to fight back against the threat that has completely dictated the course of his life, Eric joined the Crystarium guard, where by sheer coincidence, he met his biological father, still alive and well. He lives with both his biological and adoptive father now, working alongside Garrett as a knight. Despite the less than ideal circumstances that led to it, Eric is rather happy with his current life.
Personality
Outwardly, Eric is cocky and arrogant, infuriating to some and charming to others. While incredibly stubborn and conceited, he is generally friendly, and tends to at least make an attempt to avoid conflict. However, if he were to encounter another strong-willed individual with differing opinions, there would be friction.
Among friendly company, those he already knows well, Eric is a lot more relaxed and will show off less. His true personality is rather easy-going while in the right company, but he will always feel the need to prove his superiority to any he does not deem an equal, even going out of his way to exaggerate his worth by taking risks that could lead him to serious harm or debt.
