As a babe, Ezra’s mother packed her things with Ezra and left their homeland. To his mother, life in the jungle wasn’t an interest to her and she wanted to see what life on the outside had to offer. She traveled around with Ezra, seeing many things, until she settled with a man she had met on their journey. They were enamored by each other and all seemed to be well until it wasn’t.
This man had grown possessive and obsessive with Ezra’s mother in an unhealthy way. Over time this man turned into a threat and a danger to them both. Wanting to get Ezra out of harm’s way, his mother took an opportunity to pay a mercenary to take her son far away and deliver him to an orphanage. A life far away from their current home was better than anything else.
This wasn’t without pushback. Ezra fought against the mercenary demanding to be sent back and that he needed to stay with his mother. The mercenary did not cave to his wishes and continued his escort quest for the boy. Once arriving in Ul’dah. Ezra refused to go to the orphanage. He vowed to find a way back to his mother. Hearing the boy’s determination and resolve for his mother had led the mercenary to take Ezra under his wing as an apprentice. He has shown him all he knows so he can be prepared for the moment he finds his mother once more.
