Viator's Beginnings
Viator comes from a family of politicians and merchants and was raised with honesty, justice and peace in his heart. He was trained in swordplay from his father, who believed even a pacifist should know how to defend themselves and others in times of need.
Shortly after his 14th nameday, Viator’s father, one of the leaders of Lakeland, was imprisoned by the very government he worked for during a coup by dissident elves calling themselves the Nightshade, following a mysterious figure known as the Shadowkeeper. He fled his home when the Nightshade attacked, who insisted they only wanted him and would leave his family be. His mother defended their estate while his older sister escorted him to the city's edge safely, not wanting to leave her mother behind, she left Viator and insisted that she'd be back with their mother. Viator waited for hours as the city was devastated overnight, he never saw his family again.
He wandered until he was taken in by a kindly elderly couple. Though sadly it wouldn't last long as the Nightshade had been tracking him. Days later they arrived, and the couple willingly turned Viator over, as they seemed to believe whatever the Nightshade was preaching. Overhearing the conversation, he escaped before they could take him…
As the conflict spread, Viator knew he wouldn't be safe in Lakeland, with spies and armies of the Shadowkeeper around every corner, he had no recourse but to go where they wouldn't expect, making his way to the mountains in the north. He knew the nation of Voeburt was dangerous from the stories, but they seemed safer than Lakeland at this point.
He found his way into a pixie colony in the mountains where a powerful pixie with frost powers formed a pact with him. Protect him and in return he must swear play with them forever. Years passed like days as Viator seemed to age slowly thanks to the pixie's powers until a blinding light woke him from his enchantment. The Flood of Light. The frost pixie, that Viator had come to know as Shiva, defended him against the creatures of light that accompanied the flood. Close to becoming overwhelmed, she breathed the last of her magic into Viator's essence and left to fight the creatures, leaving him alone yet again…
Much of his memory of these times are a fog of mist to Viator, he recalls racing after his pixie friend, the horrible beasts of light and the sky bathed in eternal brightness, then waking up on the shores of Silvertear Lake. The sky back to normal, the calmness of the waters rippling on the surface. He would make his way to the nearby settlement of Mor Dhona where he slowly begun to learn that he was certainly not in Norvrandt anymore. Since that fateful day, Viator occasionally finds himself teleporting to different locations without meaning to, usually at inopportune moments.
Viator found his way to Gridania where he soon became a consultant with the Botanist's Guild, making use of the nature knowledge he acquired during his time with the pixies, though definitely a different land, a lot of the flora were similar to familiar plants he knew well. Always fond of bees, his main duties keep him tending to both the guild's hives and tracking their general well-being throughout The Black Shroud and beyond, something he seems to be a prodigy in when compared to veteran apiarists. He's on his way to becoming the foremost bee expert in Eorzea, but still has some way to go.
With the flexibility and skills he provides the Botanist's Guild, Viator was granted special disposition to access the airship network to assist in his role. The majority of the income he earns, he spends in Ul'dah, where he takes advantage of his younger appearance to enroll in classes with a local education institute which also provides him with a place to rest his head between jobs. He can usually be found near the main Aetheryte between classes and jobs, as he enjoys people watching as a way to learn about different cultures in Eorzea.
