Background
The story of the character's origins
Though originally from the Skatay mountain range, Cedrik spent the first half of his adult life in the Royal City of Rabanastre, as an civil engineer working to modernize the city's infrastructure. Within two decades, he had risen from novice, to journeyman, to master engineer, and gained a prestigious position as a special counsel to the Dalmascan royal family, advising them on matters of technology, while also managing several research projects intended to benefit the public good.
That all came to ruin when the Empire conquered Dalmasca, and its people were ground under the Garlean boot. Cedrik's mind for technology spared him the worst of the invasion, as he was shipped back to Garlemald to serve in the Imperial Engineering Corps. As it turned out, he had a natural talent for magitek, gleaned from decades spent studying Allagan devices in order to replicate their technology — which just so happened to be almost identical to the method used by the Empire to advance their own magitek so quickly. Cedrik soon found himself once again leading a team of engineers, and even began to believe the propaganda about the Empire building a better world through technology.
Then the Empire fell, and Cedrik's world was undone once again.
Fleeing the demise of the Imperial Capital, Cedrik found himself unwelcome in much of the rest of the world. Most regarded him with suspicion for the Garlean accent he had picked up from his time in the engineering corps. Those who learned of his prior affiliations decried him as a collaborator. Worse, his former compatriots in Dalmasca denounced him as a traitor.
The one exception was Thavnair, one of the few nations who had never gone to war with Garlemald. Rather, they were one of the few nations willing to help the Garleans rebuild, providing them with vital supplies in exchange for their valuable magitek.
Thus, Cedrik adopted a new home yet again, forming a partnership with a local Hannish mechanic to import Garlean magitek and repurpose it for the Thavnairian market.
