Iggy was born and raised Ishgardian, though he was not of the noble houses. Like most kids his age, he would occasionally spar with his peers using fake weapons, typically favoring the sword and shield. While he wasn't exceptionally skilled, it was enough to earn the attention of a member of House Haillenarte, who would, when Iggy was older, offered him employ as a guard in the Manufactory. It was there that Iggy would discover a mild fascination with magitech weaponry and the potential in the prototypes therein.
When he came of age, his weapon proficiency was tested, and found sufficient for guard duty at the Temple in the Holy See of Ishgard. His ascension to such a role was sponsored by House Haillenarte, putting in a good word for the commoner who would be raised to such a lofty status. Ever grateful, the young Hyur took the mantle, and strove to honorably serve a station that, for all he knew, was the pinnacle of his society.
His first true test came about during the tail end of the Dragonsong War. As heretics boldly struck at the Holy See itself, Iggy took a blow to the face, permanently blinding one of his eyes. Lashing out, he gripped his blade with both hands. Guided by unknown instinct, his blade was infused with his own aether, violently burning along the edge as, with a single blow, he clove through shield, armor, and bone to bisect the heretic before him. Maimed, but not broken, he threw away his shield, preparing to charge the heretics headlong before he was stopped by the sudden and unexpected reinforcements of the Warrior of Light and… Iceheart. Such a confusing display was enough to give him cause to hold his blade, to listen.
The words he heard, of Shiva, of Hraesvelgr, of the betrayal of Ishgard towards the dragons, he was left reeling. And when word later came of House Fortemps being slain by the temple, with the Archduke Thordan responsible, Iggy could not help but feel betrayed. He took to the training yard, furiously venting his frustrations against dummies. Here, he swapped to a greatsword, feeling that the extra heft would lend greater effort to his frustrations. When another training dummy was cleft in twain, however, he realized that there was… something else going on with him. He was then surprised to be approached by a young Elezen girl. Introducing herself as Rielle, she claimed to recognize the energy he was giving off, introducing him to an Au'ra warrior named Sidurgu who taught him the ways of the Dark Knight formally. Or at least, the basics.
Iggy then had what was probably the least ideal training exam: The final battle of the Dragonsong War at the Final Steps of Faith. He protected who he could, stopped any dragons he could, but was ultimately less than worthless against the unstoppable might of Nidhogg, empowered as he was by both of his eyes and the skills of the Azure Dragoon. Twas all he could do to safeguard the wounded, of which he would soon join the number of, in falling back from the front line. He escaped with his life, and for that, he was grateful enough.
With time in the medbay, Iggy found himself undergoing a lot of introspection. Everything he thought he knew and believed in had been a lie. Once he recovered from his wounds, he decided to formally leave the Temple Knights, citing a need to go and figure himself out, and left Ishgard, wandering Eorzea as a traveling mercenary and spellsword to hone his powers and his skills.
Recently, he found new company in a group of warriors amongst the Maelstrom called the Phoenix Vanguard, and is currently settling in to try and find a new purpose for himse.
