Helza was born in a small fishing village, the youngest of a large family of Plainsfolk. Much of his early life was spent learning his family's trade and helping to move their produce between the village and the city of Limsa Lominsa for sale.
During those trips, Helza would often hear stories from travelers of the many different places they'd visited, but one name always stood out to him: Ul'dah. It was described as the jewel of the desert- a place of endless wealth and opportunity with gilded halls and all the things a small Lalafell of modest means could hardly begin to dream of.
When he was sixteen summers old, he took what small earnings he had and set out toward the great city with intent to find some of that opportunity and wealth for himself. Indeed, the city was just as bright and gilded as was described, but the young country Lalafell was not prepared for the kinds of people he would meet there. Within weeks he was swindled of nearly every last coin, and within a month he'd found himself barely scraping by and living in streets.
It was during that time that he was approached by The Yilan, a then-small group of refugees and destitute residents looking to make a change in their communities. Helza was sold on their dream of a better tomorrow for the poor. As the Yilan grew, however, so did their ambitions, and soon Helza found himself embroiled in a myriad of criminal activities. It's not the life he wanted, but the pay is good, and the rich are getting what they deserve... at least that's what he tells himself.
