The story of the character's origins
Demetrius “Demi” bas Idrissi
Demetrius Idrissi, or Demi, as he's most commonly known, is a sociable ‘merchant sailor’ who hails from a mid-sized deep-water port city in the south Ilsabardian nation of Locus Amoenus Corvos.
Fleeing the deep home waters of the Bounty for the refuge of the shallow Stardust Sea, he seemingly appeared in Tuliyollal out of nowhere only a few years ago, having lost his ship the **Shearwater** and her crew. Those who keep an eye on world events may have noticed how closely his arrival was timed with the Garlean civil war, but for a former provincial citizen, Demetrius isn't particularly disturbed by or hostile towards Garleans. He’ll speak on almost anything but the Final Days.
Demi considers Tuliyollal his primary home, though he spends more and more time away since surviving recent events in the city. Despite his compulsive gambling, petty theft, and habitual benders, it’s clear he deeply cares for the Turali nation and people. He’s very civic-minded, perhaps paradoxically, and habitually seeks the Dawnservants’ audience to advocate for improved services in the city. He also spends a lot of time in Ul'dah for work, but Thanalan beaches are a tragic downgrade.
First Impressions
Demi has a striking appearance — taller than most though an average Elezen height, artfully disheveled dark brunette hair, rose pink eyes, colorful clothing often reminiscent of Thavnairian fashion, and a small collection of dashing wide-brimmed hats.
His ‘missing’ left arm ends just above the elbow, and he often wears a magitek prosthetic limb. Sometimes he's seen spending his free time in a public square or park, using inventive assistive devices to whittle or knit solely with his right hand.
He walks with confidence and purpose, and will never be caught without a good knife and a pistol somewhere on his person. Demi has a slight South Ilsabardian accent, and his voice is clear, warm, and emotive. For a man who has as many enemies as he does friends, he doesn’t make much effort to hide.
Personality & Traits
Polite, talkative, organized, practical, charismatic, protective, fiercely loyal, arrogant, superstitious, and often wary to the point of paranoia. He very rarely tells an outright lie, but he's excellent at bending the truth and omitting information.
Though he truly believes gender identity and expression have no bearing on a person's capabilities or capacities, Demi still has a tendency towards a chivalrous attitude in the company of women and femmes. Once someone becomes important to him, whether a platonic or romantic relationship, he'll do almost anything to ensure their comfort and happiness, often to the point of absurdity.
Despite his profession, and the brutality it requires, Demi abhors undue violence and will only fight if necessary. This does not mean he's unwilling to do what needs to be done — for him, though it may be regrettable, the ends nearly always justify the means. He governs his own actions, and those under his command, by a strict code of personal conduct.
Likes: Games of chance & skill, cats, souvenirs & trinkets, firearms, warm weather, knitting, whittling, playing music, trying new cuisines.
Dislikes: Most magic & enchantments, intrusive questions, pessimism, a lack of personal style, snow & ice.
OOC Information
- I’m a 30+ year old busy adult that works full time. RP is my fun hobby, let's keep it fun!
- I prefer in-game RP over Discord. I have a weird schedule sometimes so I prefer to set aside time for RP in advance (generally weekdays after 5pm PST and anytime on weekends).ㅤ
- Writing partners must be 21+ years old IC and OOC. I prefer 25+ years old for both, due to the high potential for mature subjects in RP.
- What I find acceptable will vary by situation and by my faith in the intentions of my writing partner. If I find something uncomfortable, I will tell you. Please do the same for me.
- I reserve the right to remove my character from any interactions that don’t align with my RP values, and encourage any of my potential writing partners to do the same. You respect my time and energy, I respect yours, we’re cool. I want RP to be a mutually satisfying writing collaboration, and a vehicle to propel each others’ characters forward in fulfilling directions.
- OOC =/= IC, do not take anything this fictional character says or does, as me personally agreeing with his beliefs or actions. How he feels about your character is not equivalent to how I feel about you.
- I will never write my character harming yours without OOC discussion and consent, and require the same in return. I will not write sexual assault or domestic violence
Looking for:
- Travel & adventure. I love a good action scene, whether it includes combat or not.
- Emotional nuance & a good sense of humor. I like to have both angst and comedy in my RP (even better when it's possible to artfully combine the two). Hopefully you do too!
- Lore flexibility and reasonable headcanons/homebrews that color in the vague outlines of existing FFXIV canon are great, but I prefer to avoid extreme fanon concepts.
- Everyday average grounded OCs of the world. They likely have lived through extraordinary circumstances, and might even have exceptional feats and talents to boast about, but I'm not interested in RP with heads of state, immortal beings, deities, etc.
- Close platonic friendships of all kinds. I especially enjoy RPing with characters that have a strong contrast or even a clash in personality/interests.
- Pre-existing character connections are welcome with a bit of discussion. E.g., rivals, associates, drinking buddies, or debtors.
- Dark or violent themes and antagonistic dynamics are welcome, please ask first.
