Backstory
Born to House Dzemael, Anne-Sophie was sent at an early age under the orders of the Holy See for fosterage with House Haillenarte, to settle a petty feud. Wary of a potential Dzemael spy in their ranks, those of House Haillenarte were careful to place Anne-Sophie in a position where she could not do harm to their House - she was consigned to a position as a lady-in-waiting for one of their daughters.
Little more than a glorified maid, Anne-Sophie soon grew frustrated with her lot in life - over the years she had come to genuinely enjoy the company and lifestyle of House Haillenarte, admiring their forge and the courage of the Rose Knights, so being saddled with such simple duties chafed at her. She longed for nothing more than to join the Rose Knights and prove herself a worthwhile ward of House Haillenarte. Eventually, denied the ability to pursue her passions, Anne-Sophie decided it was time she “disappeared” from Ishgard.
Anne-Sophie ended up in the pirate city of Limsa Lominsa, selling her axe while searching for a longer-term work contract. At first both House Dzemael and House Haillenarte sent operatives after her, trying to return her to the life she'd left behind - for House Haillenarte, it didn't look good publicly to have lost the noble daughter entrusted to them as a ward. For House Dzemael, however… it was more a matter of control. Anne-Sophie's father wasn't so ready to lose his plant within the other High House. The elezen spent years dodging their attempts to reclaim her, until one day, the operatives simply… stopped. Anne-Sophie isn't sure if they simply gave up on her or if something else caught their attention, but she's resolved not to question it.
