Early Life
Born in Rabanastre to the servant of a provincial senator, Marsil has had a front row seat to Garlean corruption his entire life. Though he and his mother were granted citizenship, Marsil soon grew to resent the leash the empire had on his people. Rather than bow as his mother had, Marsil descended into the depths of Lowtown, where he fell in with like-minded individuals. He fell under the tutelage of Kutok, a bitter war veteran turned mercenary, who taught him and Amelia everything he thought they might need. Marsil took his teachings to heart, and soon he and Amelia were amassing a following of their own.
Dalmascan Resistance
As their numbers started to grow, Marsil leveraged his status as an imperial citizen to charter a hunter's clan to be their front. Named for his late grandmother, a casualty of the invasion herself, Clan Delima served to legitimize their operations on paper. Buried beneath the upstanding citizens and hunters on legitimate business was Marsil's inner circle, a band of resistance fighters as loyal to the ideals of Dalmascan freedom as they were to each other. Marsil would personally bring in those sympathetic to the cause, rescuing displaced shinobi Mujika Mori from his Garlean captors and sheltering Viola after the clan's actions inadvertently led to her exile from Muscadet. With the clan's cover allowing them to traverse both Dalmascan provinces with little suspicion, Marsil quickly began utilizing their position to ferry supplies and messages between resistance cells. Their hunts became cover for saboteurs or fleeing operatives, putting Marsil and his people in the good graces of many other sects while maintaining the image of an upstanding citizen. He readily leveraged his position for intel and resources, leading to his cell surviving the Barheim incident with fewer -- though hardly nonexistant -- losses compared to his compatriots.
Post-Stormblood/Return to Ivalice
Marsil was among the voices eager for blood as Doma and Ala Mhigo's successes lit a fire in the heart of the Dalmascan resistance. No longer content to be mere logistical support, Marsil's cell met the Garlean forces in battle on the streets of Rabanastre. Despite their eagerness and tenacity, the Delima hunters were thwarted at every turn, gunned down or taken into Garlean custody. Marsil found himself captured, thrown in a cell, and interrogated for hours before Mujika was able to infiltrate the prison and rescue him. By then it was too late for the rest of their cell, and it was all they could do to flee the destruction that followed.
Only a handful of Clan Delima members, rebels or otherwise, survived the Dalriada's destruction of their city. With everything he built in ruins around him, Marsil offered his expertise to Lente's Tears as a logistics officer. He sent Viola away to see their refugees to safety, while dismissing Mujika to return to his homeland of Doma. Marsil then urged Kutok and his own adoptive daughter Myrmidia to join the Tears' cause, as he saw no other option if they wished to continue the fight. When Viola returned shortly after, he bid her do the same.
Post Shadowbringers/Bozjan Resistance
Though Marsil struggled to adapt to the Tears' far more militant structure, he dedicated himself to their efforts as best he could. As the Bozjan resistance began their campaign, he stepped in line to join the Dalmascan forces in retaking Nalbina Fortress, then again to provide Dalmascan aid and supplies to the Zadnor front. He would remain at Zadnor until the IVth Legion was well and truly crushed.
After returning to Rabanastre, Marsil urged the Delima survivors to lay the first stones in rebuilding their clan. He knew a reborn Dalmasca would need more than soldiers, it would need food and security -- something a clan such as theirs could provide. He departed soon after, informing Lente's Tears that he was "taking personal leave" and would return to serve in due time.
Post Endwalker
Marsil finally returned to Dalmasca in the wake of the Final Days. After reporting in, he immediately resigned from his position, having no desire to play soldier. Instead, he resumed his position as the Huntmaster of Clan Delima, aiding in the rebuilding efforts in Rabanastre and looking after the city's displaced people.
At the Tears' request, he occasionally serves as a representative for Dalmasca in matters of diplomacy, putting his experience in coordinating between the forces of different nations to work in a far more peaceful environment. The coin his efforts earn are put right back into his humanitarian work in Rabanastre.
