The Little Green of Thavnair
Hatched from a lone egg on an isle just shy of the Thavnarian mainland, Aban was no stranger to the wilderness around him; it wasn't long before someone from the mainland found the hatchling and brought him over from the desolate isle to the mainland. Thus, he became a dragon raised amongst people, very quickly adopting a humanoid form before even learning how to fly or control his own abilities other than morphing between a humanoid and his dragon form.
Garlean Captivity
Early in his human-adolescent years, Aban had eventually fallen victim to the Garleans, albeit by his own mistake; a group of Garlean soldiers were pestering the old man he lived with—the one who ferried him onto Thavnair's mainland, and taught him how to live amongst the Thavnarian people—and he let his draconic power run wild for a brief moment. Violent gales formed and roared to his own will and want—the want to protect one of the many who raised him; but he only knew how to make the winds violent, not how to truly guide them to inflict harm or protect another. Thus the Garleans captured him without much issue.
Whilst in captivity, Aban simply followed the whims and fancies of those in charge as a means to survive—to keep going. Day after day, night after night, it would be repeats of the same schedule: wake, poorly cleanse oneself, eat, slave away, then sleep… except for the few times a bunch of researchers wanted to attempt harnessing his abilities. His left eye was removed after the 10th visit, and his right on the 20th, leaving him severely weakened and reliant on the faintest semblance of aethersight.
Around the time Aban would turn 18, in mortal years, a girl around the same human-age named Aeus would pay a visit alongside the team of researchers who were profiting from whatever bit Aban they could—and she found the sight of it all utterly horrid. She was a medicus—a healer, or at least planned to be one—and the sight of Aban being cut into whilst awake, the sight of his hollow eye sockets that were covered in bits of frost, it was enough to make her reconsider.
She sneaked into Aban's holding area, freed him, and escaped with him—vowing to nurse him back to health as much as she could. They would eventually end up getting married, and the duo often went on covert missions to topple the Garleans' efforts of bringing Eorzea and Othard under their control, leading to several loose connections being formed.
In The Balance
Several years later, when both Aeus and Aban were in their twenties, they planned a trip to Garlemald to meet with Aeus' parents. They managed to keep in touch with one another, and the couple had news they wished to share in-person: they were expecting a child. They paid for a boat and a mercenary, Ogodei, to cover for them, as Aban was still relatively weak and he was mostly against Aeus diving into combat.
Unfortunately, they were intercepted on the back from Aeus' parents' residence by a group of Garlean soldiers tasked to find and kill defectors. Aeus dove in to protect Aban, who failed to stop her, and thus met her end along with their would-be child—killed via firing squad, one bullet after another piercing through her body with no regard for the unborn child within. An elderly Miqo'te then made his presence known, with a seemingly younger version of himself with small ridges on his head—as if they were the start of horns. It was Quintus and Kreios, except Aban and Ogodei knew not who they were.
Aeus' body, along with another item, were used in an unusual ritual after the older Miqo'te dismissed the Garlean squad. Not much was clear after that point aside from the rage Aban felt and Ogodei holding him back.
Lamentation, Windward
Aban spent a decade or so lamenting the loss of his wife and unborn child, and any attempt one would make at love towards the dragon would fall on deaf ears. He felt robbed. Thoughts ran through his head, wondering if he hadn't let her save him, would she be alive—if, perhaps, had he not accidentally displayed his abilities that evening in that little shack back in Thavnair, would he still have met her eventually and everything would be fine? He fell further down his rabbit hole, listening to his own echo chamber until Ogodei proposed an idea—to open a cafe in the Mist. A distraction of some kind for the dragon.
Aban agreed to the idea, and went along with it.. all the while having a growing resentment to his own kind—something quiet and forever lurking under the surface.
Before the cafe came into fruition, however, he and another group set out to deal with a threat lingering about in the now-ruined Garlean Empire, where he managed to recover his right eye.
Chosen Brethren
Aban, now being the co-owner of a cafe and pub, set out to find individuals to hire, as well as find affordable vendors to get their produce and what not from. He'd eventually run into Kreios in Pearl Lane and hire him out of pity, attempting to shape the homunculus into a more… tolerable man. He also made new acquaintances and friends whilst running the cafe, and found solace in doing so—a sort of peace, albeit still quietly lamenting Aeus' death.
In The Balance, Again
Several more years after, Aeus made an appearance and Aban caught wind of it. A series of rather questionable events led up to Aeus denouncing her love for him, as she recalled nothing despite being fully fluent in dragonspeak and having his left eye. After a seemingly short trip to the first, nearly killing those closest to him and finally setting himself free of his own turmoil, he gave up on her like she wanted him to, and he let her keep his eye, as taking it would kill her, again.
Aban then found himself eventually giving into another woman's attempts at romance—one of the few he rescued from a Garlean encampment in Othard, Xiaoyu, who was also with him when he recovered his right eye. They formed a family and now he's simply a busy father, husband and cafe owner.
