Adam Shaw grew up in Ishgard under the eye of his grandfather. At a young age, Adam lost both his parents to a dragon attack. That would claim their lives as they landed on their building. At the time of the dragon's landing, Adam was with his grandfather since he was fond of him.
Adam's grandfather finds out what happened to Adam's parents. He tried to shield Adam from ever finding out for as long as he lived. As Adam grew up, he became obsessed with guns and crafting. His grandfather, though, had other ideas.
At 13, his grandfather became more strict with his training to become a knight. The training was complex and challenging for him at a young age. The schedule was five hours of training with the knight's guard in the morning, lunch, another five hours in the later afternoon, school, dinner, bath, and bed.
At the age of 18, Adam's grandfather had made him into a well-trained knight. When he was of age to be enlisted, his grandfather told him, "Adam, you need to become a proud knight and make your parents happy. This is what they wanted." Adam nodded and said," Yes, sir".”
As Adam signed up, he would get to take a test of his might. As he went through it, the higher-up in the ishgard knight saw Adam's potential. They smiled at each other and yelled to the captain of the knight, "Make this boy a captain in two years. Put him under your wing for now."
The day finally came, and Adam, with two years under his mentor's belt, had become the captain of his squad. Knowing he needed capable men, he looked at what was around. He found a few good ones in the barracks, looking ready to train. As he walked out, he met a man named Jackson. Adam asked if he could spar with him for a few found. Jackson nodded, and the two started to hit it off. Not missing a beat, they talked as if they had known each other since they were young. Adam found the courage during one of his swings to say, "Jackson, would you like to be my second in command of my squad/platoon?" Jackson stopped swinging and looked shocked as Adam's sword hit him. Adam said, "I won, but want to join me?"
As the squad became stronger, so did Adam and Jackson's connection. They knew each other so well that they never had to say a word to order the other. But six years into their time as a squad, it would soon come to an end.
Adam's squad was dispatched to the Dravanian forelands. He would soon find out the worst of his life has yet to come. The squad was on a mission to scout ahead and find a new place to hunker down. Day and night, the squad would walk through the forelands to find a place. Dragons ruined this area, and Adam felt it but never showed fear. As they got to a suitable location to bunk down, they started a small fire and made it comfortable to stay. Night turns to days as they stayed there to build it out. A year passed, and the sun was at its highest on that day as the men were getting ready to finish their meal.
The sun would become black as a large dragon swooped down and landed, roaring at them. Adam took guard, yelling for his squad to regroup, but not a single man answered. He looked around and noticed that this was a planned attack from the dragons and that they were to keep one human alive. The years of training together were gone in an instant. The dragon looked at Adam and roared. As it roared, it flew off, leaving behind nothing but him and the dead bodies of his squad.
That day repeatedly played in the back of Adam's mind, draining his will to go on. Two years prior, he lost his last family member, his grandfather. Adam was left with nothing.
A few went by, and soon, Adam was 29. He went to the captain of the knight, resigned, and went on to become an adventurer on a mission to kill the dragon that had killed his friends.
