History
Much and more could be said of Jessamine, and yet more could be said of the dubious veracity of it all. Thus, perhaps a loose timeline is best… beneath the cuts, in case you'd prefer a little more mystery.
Jessamine was born in Dalmasca's Golmore jungle, ostensibly in Dei-ijla village, though none of its emigrants could claim to recognise her—whether this is due to her advanced age, changes to her appearance, or plain falsehoods, who can say?
Late in the 1300s she emerged into the cities of Dalmasca proper, coming to settle in Leá Monde and, in time, serve in the Grand Cathedral as a priestess of the Light of Kiltia.
Early in the 1400s wanderlust took hold: the libraries of Dalmasca had few secrets left to tell, and tales gleaned of the wild and wonderful varieties of spellcraft the world over drove her to travel west.
For near-on a century she travelled the breadth and width of Ilsabard, with only the occasional delving into far-western Eorzea. From Landis to Werlyt, Bozja Citadel to the temples of Nhalmasque, she led a life of adventure and arcane study.
Late in the 1400s her pursuit of esoterica led more permanently to Eorzea's city-states. Gridania and the Black Shroud excepted, she bounced from nation to nation on a whim in search of elusive lore and a diverse assemblage of contacts.
In 1528 she formally settled in Ul'dah as a member of the Order of Nald'thal. Stationed in the Temple of Thal in the Arrzaneth Ossuary, she took the time to solidify her reputation as an authoritative voidmath. While her wanderlust never truly abated, it was satisfied with the occasional visit to Limsa Lominsa, Ala Mhigo, Radz-At-Han, or the northern Sharlayan colony of Emporium.
By 1540 she was a Prelate of the Order. In the decades that followed, she took part in the training of many an aspiring Thaumaturge between her regular duties and personal pursuits—the latter of which underwent a gradual decline into hedonism for hedonism's sake and other characteristically Ul'dahn vices.
The Calamity shattered the status quo she'd so comfortably settled into. Barely a year later, she stepped away from her place and duties in the Order, retained on an informal basis by the Ossuary for her expertise on the Void and religious histories. The next four years leading up to the Seventh Astral Era were spent as an itinerant socialite and academic consultant.
Now, she wanders the land in pursuit of leisurely diversions and simple pleasures, with the occasional fixation on sufficiently interesting scholarly leads—searching, perhaps, for something to reignite that spark for adventure. Or maybe not.
Quirks
Woman Out Of Time: Her mannerisms can vary in a somewhat uncanny or confusing manner, disjointedly mingling anachronistic turns of phrase and vocabulary with more modern, casual diction.
Unfocused Gaze: The particularly acute might notice her odd habit of subtly feigning eye contact: her gaze rests between the brows or upon the nose, rarely if ever the eyes proper.
Sturdy Sorceress: Contrary to wizardly stereotypes (but perhaps complimentary to Viera stereotypes), Jessamine is possessed of a more robust, muscular build, albeit one often masked by heavy robes.
Out of Character
Hello, hello! Thank you for checking out the profile, here's the standard boring (but good-to-know!) notes, in no particular order:
• I'm an adult and expect my roleplay partners to be, too. My effective timezone is EST, but my online times aren't super consistent in practice.
• Not everything is on the profile, and that's intentional! The hooks tab and vague history are in case any of it happens to be relevant to your character, the finer details are to discover through roleplay! (Or to just ask about, of course.)
• A strict adherence to the lore isn't absolutely necessary, but respect for the setting and an attempt to make everything gel and make sense is appreciated!
Despite all the disclaimers, please don't be afraid to say hi! While I'm frequently AFK or tabbed out, I'm usually good for a quick chat about anything and everything!
