OOC Preamble
Hi there! Thanks for checking out my character. If you're interested at all, don't be shy and feel free to reach out! My preferences are guidelines, and nobody has to match up perfectly to be a good fit. Contact me on Discord as zeemgeem . I am 23 and live in Canada - my timezone is EST. I speak English and ASL. My pronouns are she/her. LGBT+ friendly. Cover picture by Invayneart!
I am an RPer of 8 years looking to make long term connections with like-minded friends - with a focus on interesting and evolving character dynamics, storytelling with light adventure themes, grounded characters, in one on one settings and/or small scale groups. I'm a busy person, but my schedule is flexible with some notice, so I like to schedule my RP in advance. Chances are high I can adjust to your schedule easily. I prefer RPing in game, as I lose track easily when responding to discord scenes over the course of a day. My posts are descriptive and one to two paragraphs long, usually taking from 4 to 10 minutes depending on if my wrist tremors flare up - patience is appreciated. I also prefer to make friends OOC rather than only RPing with someone with no outside interaction. If that sounds like you, great! If you prefer one offs, short replies, big venues, walk-ups, or characters who can wrestle a primal, our styles are more likely to clash. I will DC travel and I expect my RP partners to be open to this as well.
The usual rules apply. Don't metagame, godmod, powerplay, OOC bleed, or kill my character, don't be the WOL or any established canon character or anyone from a different fictional universe or real life. Do not bring up extremely sensitive or uncomfortable subjects in RP without warning or asking me what's okay ahead of time, especially if you intend to involve my OCs directly. Yes, I would rather pause in the middle of an RP scene if such subjects come up naturally to clarify comfort limits. This list is not exhaustive but you get the point. I do not have strict standards but I expect a legible level of literacy and grammar and for the average reply to have more than just a couple words in it to work with as an RPer. I promise I'm nice but I have to put these boundaries somewhere. Thanks for understanding!
My Mare code is BY4QTAZA52 - my characters have lightly modded appearances, and are SFW. Please inform me of any NSFW content I might encounter on your Mare, RPhub page or Carrd etc. If there is any, ask first before linking with me. I always ensure continuity between my vanilla and modded appearances / glamours for the sake of those who do not use Mare, though some discrepancies may occur. Some of this character's important mods are not up-to-date with Dawntrail, so please refer to the gallery for the correct appearance.
I am open to RP of all types. Friends, enemies, rivals, lovers - familiar faces my characters may have encountered in their past and complete strangers alike. I'm always happy to discuss options to find what works best! I'm okay with darker themes but prefer levity with lighthearted, casual, or generally “fun” scenes. I do not enjoy RP with a consistently dour mood. A good balance of plot progression and slice of life is ideal for me.
If you'd like to pursue romance, I usually prefer if you bring it up to me OOC first if you aren't taking a direct approach - mostly because I'm not the best at reading signals and tend not to pick up on it at first. No fem OCs, and no Lalafells or large age gaps, please! You as the player must also be over 18.
I believe in a show, don't tell approach - as a result, all character information below (excluding potential hooks) is limited to IC public knowledge. You can find out more through RP, or feel free to ask me.
I generally operate under real time in RP rather than the “time bubble” for the sake of background consistency.
Appearance
Iris stands at a meagre four fulms and seven ilms, with a slim, untrained physique - her lack of scars, delicate hands and generally frail appearance suggest a privileged and sedentary lifestyle. Her dark complexion and even darker hair strongly contrast her peculiar scales - these are notably a shade paler than most Raen, feel hard and slightly rough to the touch, and are found in considerable numbers and unusual places - along the spine, spanning from her knees to just under her arms, and most strangely, sharp protrusions from her fingertips where nails would otherwise be. However, they do not appear to limit her range of motion. Her tongue and gums are blue, rare for a Raen woman.
Iris has an impressive collection of custom-made equipment, clearly crafted with expensive and extravagant materials - the Raen is just about never seen without her long flowing robes and lavish collection of enchanted jewellery and accessories. Form over function is a common through line, and it's next to impossible not to pick up on her inordinate wealth from just a glance. She often carries a large supply bag, which seems to be enchanted to preserve the myriad potions and ingredients within. Likewise, she is seldom seen without her silver guide cane, typically held in her left hand - curiously, it's clearly oversized for her diminutive stature despite the custom design, making it frequently mistaken for a staff. She often keeps her eyes concealed behind tinted shades or opaque wrappings, especially when doing business.
In spite of her evident care and attention to detail towards her own appearance, Iris' eyes appear unresponsive to seemingly all stimuli save for particularly bright lights, - likely a result of the thick white cataracts blocking out her pupils entirely and all but a faint ring of colour. Occasionally her clouded gaze will still follow people or objects which have particularly dense or otherwise unusual aether, though only when close by.
Iris' accent is distinctly Hannish, and her refined elocution and diction tends to give away her noble heritage. She speaks Eorzean, Hannish, and Hingan fluently. She can be quite expressive when speaking: her face tends not to match her often precisely controlled and even tone of voice - betraying her true thoughts under the surface for those who know to look.
Personality
At a glance, Iris seems impenetrable - playing the part of the reserved, distant noble as one might expect, she comes across somewhat cold in the company of strangers. She seems to allow only a select few individuals beyond arm's length and appears happy to keep it that way, much sooner tending to her tomes and experiments than striking out to meet new friends. However, it appears to take very little for her to engage with someone should she choose to - eagerly chatting the ear off of anyone who manages to engage her interest in all things arcane and scientific… and typically catching them off guard in the process when she comes out of her shell as just about the complete opposite of what's on the surface. The Raen is adventurous and self-assured with an insatiable curiosity - those she gets comfortable with will learn of her quick-wit, playful attitude, and limitless supply of sass. She seems much more likely to engage with a fellow mage, and has a known disquiet around mercenaries and other such hired blades, despite working with them often.
Iris is fascinated with aetherology and doesn't hide that fact - she spends most of her spare time performing experiments in her lab-turned-alchemy-shop, organizing elaborate expeditions to hunt for rare reagents, or collecting all manner of magical baubles, tomes, research papers, and memorabilia relating to her subjects of intrigue - rumours suggest this includes all manner of forbidden arts, but it's questionable if the blind mage is even capable of actually reading them.
Despite her status as the lone scion to the Yuzuka family, Iris seems to often shun the responsibilities of her position whenever possible, avoiding invoking her family name around those unaware of her status, and choosing to live out of a small apartment and work in a fairly modest lab despite the resources at her disposal.
History
This section includes MSQ spoilers through Endwalker.
Iridesca “Iris” Yuzuka was born the first and only child to the Yuzuka noble bloodline, a prominent name among the upper class of Radz-at-Han - allegedly her ancestors were among the first settlers to the island after being forced to flee Doma amidst rebellion. While no records exist to prove or deny the legitimacy of this claim, their history is undeniably long-standing. These legacy family ties grant their modern descendants powerful connections to the alchemists of the Great Work and the Radiant Host, where they often work directly for and alongside the Satrap himself.
Iris was born several weeks premature in critical condition. She had survived under the intensive care of the Great Work's alchemists, though complications lingered due to her stunted growth - the resulting scare had her parents choose not to try for any more children. Little is known of her childhood, as having been educated privately and carefully watched over as the lone heiress to the family's estate, the young noble rarely ventured from the family manor unattended.
At the age of 13 Iris began studying at the Great Work, already fascinated with the healing arts after a childhood full of visits to doctors, healers and alchemists of all sorts as a result of her condition. She continued to hone her skills and education until her mid-twenties before moving to Eorzea in pursuit of expanded opportunities, opening a small business shortly after. While she seems to prefer this lifestyle she maintains some connection to Thavnair, acting as a representative within Old Sharlayan, and previously having returned to assist her fellow alchemists amidst the Final Days - with the development of the warding scales, as well as providing aid for those injured and made refugee following the war, and lastly in the nation's study of the Thirteenth. - Once these pressing matters had been resolved, she returned to her quiet lifestyle and independent studies.
As of now she operates her store in Gridania while living out of a small apartment in Mist, though some customers complain of the erratic and ever-changing schedule, as she seemingly only works when in the mood for it. When not working she spends her time on numerous smaller experiments of her own, often travelling to expand her business opportunities as well as acquire rare reagents and items of interest, or taking odd jobs seemingly just doing whatever catches her attention on any given day. She occasionally publishes her findings - mages with similar interests may find a paper or two under her name in their library.
