Backstory (ripped from his old carrd, will update in due time)
Maxis was born to a port merchant father (Jatoh Akiyama) and a seamstress mother (Akiko Akiyama). With an unusual name that implied greatness, the miqo'te grew up comfortably, though his mischevious side often got him into trouble. As he grew older and became a port boy, he began to grow tired of Kugane's hustle and bustle. Inspired by the tales he heard on a daily basis, Maxis stole a small trading boat and set sail to Eorzea! After an unfortunately rough arrival (crashing right into one of Costa Del Sol's mini islands), the miqo'te began to make a name for himself as a jack-of-all-trades, as the damage caused left him with 19 gil.
Over the next three years, Maxis would hone his craft in various fields in between his time as a mercenary. He would find himself delivering packages, hunting monsters, standing against the House Knights of Ishgard, working in the jewelry business as a bodyguard, and even went toe-to-toe with voidsent. While he found pleasure in his new lifestyle, the way he had exited Kugane always left a bad taste in his mouth. To remedy this, he would eventually return to the port city to reconcile with his family. However, he had also stumbled upon a rumor: his former boss, Vaughn Valentyne, had been murdered. Eager to find the culprit, Maxis would spend a few months searching for the truth, making waves in the city's criminal underworld.
Upon discovering the truth (Vaughn had faked his death), Maxis would make preparations to return to his normal duties. However, his approach during his mission re-opened old wounds with certain families of the yakuza. When he least expected it, Maxis was captured and was beaten senseless, with a massive debt to the yakuza now owed. He now returns to Eorzea in pursuit of repaying the debt to gain his freedom, assure the safety of his family, and get his eye back. However, this isn't the only thing he faces. Unbeknownst to him, an event from his past involving the auspice Byakko has slowly begun to affect him, both physically & mentally. With his future uncertain, all Maxis can do now is fight to ensure he gets a happy outcome.
