Voice Claim: Captain Salazar
Having grown up in a poor environment with his family and being one of five siblings, Cervantes always had to share and make due with what little his parents could provide with. Starting off as humble farmers, unfortunately their business and fruits of labor never saw much success. Cervantes and his siblings couldn't afford to go to any sort of school, or even be home schooled by his working parents, in the end, he and his siblings were left to fend for themselves more often than not…
After failing to grow any good crops around their home, they had to move into the main city-state of Tuliyollal. Cervantes's mother served as ‘Lady of the Night’ in order to be able to make ends meet for her five children, while going behind the back of her husband. A husband who tried finding work within the city-state but to no avail. Spending most of his days at the pub, wasting his life and pelts away on drinks in order to drown himself from his responsibilities back home. On the rare nights he decided to come back to the humble household, Cervantes and his siblings suffered abuse at the hands of their father in violent ways. Begging for food, begging for a warm bed, for clean water to drink, their father would give into his alcoholic rage and tendencies. His answer to their ‘whining’ was often solved with a fist or a belt. Something that Cervantes's mother couldn't take anymore. In the end, leaving her home behind, as well as her five children in search for a better life elsewhere within the city-state of Tuliyollal.
This event served as the breaking point for Cervantes's father. Kicking his own children right out of the house. Cervantes's eldest sibling being seventeen and Cervantes himself being only fifteen at the time. His youngest sibling having been merely seven turns of age. It was often left to the eldest siblings to try and find jobs to at least afford some scrap of food for the night, but often times they came back empty handed. In the end, they felt they had no other choice but to steal what they could in order to just survive one more night. The youngest sibling being the worst off as they had to take well care of the child. In a world where children were looking after children, every obstacle that came their way seemed almost impossible to get over or around.
In the end, the two youngest siblings didn't make the cut. Having succumb to common colds that they couldn't treat due to a lack of medicine and resources, the two youngest perished at the ages of 8 and 9 respectively, leaving only three… The two eldest siblings ended up making a career of themselves through their persistence. Eventually a local taking notice and taking them in, leaving Cervantes behind. Cervantes felt betrayed by his own siblings. First being left behind by his mother, then father, and now his siblings who had all moved on to bigger and better things.
At the age of 17, Cervantes began his life of piracy. After stowing away on a supply ferry that had come from Thavnair, he had then moved on to a Garlean submarine ship where he had stolen some weaponry. After stealing some gear from a Garlean submarine ship, he made his way back to the docks of Thavnair and it was here where he commandeered his first ferry. Threatening the crew on board at gunblade point. And it was here where he took his first few lives, too. Seeing as nobody took him seriously, being only 17, Cervantes knew he had to do something in order for them to believe him. So, he ended up taking the lives of the captain and some of his crew members. Disposing of them with efficiency and dumping overboard into the Thavnairian waters below. It was then he took hostage of the rest on board the supply ferry and began making his way to Eorzea.
The era and life of pirates began for the once young Cervantes…
