Early Life
Affectionately described as their mother's favorite accident, Kin was born in Rabanastre at the height of imperial rule. With both parents deeply entrenched in the disjointed efforts of the Dalmascan Resistance, their early life in Clan Delima was far from easy. There was little denying the fact that Kin was as much a liability as they were loved. The clan did their best to keep Kin's existence a secret, out of fear the Imperials might try to use them as leverage against members of Marsil's inner circle. Though secrecy was the safest option, it left Kin very isolated from a young age and they often struggled with social interactions despite their parents' best efforts.
From the moment they could hold a dagger, their father made it a point to pass on his own martial knowledge. Much of their childhood was spent learning the art of subterfuge and survival, while their mother passed on her knowledge of the natural world around them. Though they never saw Golmore for themself, they listened with awe to their mother's stories, all the while knowing they could never see it for themself.
The Destruction of Rabanastre [Stormblood]
The days after the Liberation of Doma reinvigorated resistance efforts throughout Dalmasca, turning Kin's home into a battlefield. While the rest of the cell made drastic moves and joined the rest of the resistance in the streets, Kin and his mother remained in the clan hall, with Kutok to watch over them and help maintain appearances. Kin kept watch from an upper story window, while his mother helped coordinate the efforts of runners across the city. It was only a matter of time before Garlean scouts tracked the runners straight to them. Kin was at his mother's side when their sappers brought down the clan hall with a series of explosives, burying Kin, Kutok, and alive beneath the rubble.
Trapped, but not dead, Kin could do nothing more than listen as the echoing sounds of battle gave way to the cadence of Imperial firing squads. He remained beneath the rubble even as the Dalriada turned its weapons on the Rabanastre itself, layers of debris shielding them from the worst of the heat as the city burned. There was no doubt in their mind; they were going to die.
It was nearly two days before and were able to return and search for survivors. Kin was already delirious from dehydration by the time his father carried him from the rubble and down into the waterways beneath the ruined city. It was another several days before they were well enough to leave their makeshift quarters and help search for other survivors.
With only a handful of survivors -- one permanently maimed and another too young to be a soldier -- Clan Delima all but disbanded, throwing their lot in with Lente's Tears. Once arrangements were made for refugees to be sent away to Eorzea and Doma, Kin's mother escorted him safely into the forests of Gridania, far away from anywhere the Garleans might think to look. Though it was a far cry from Golmore, she hoped a life in another wood, one ever in need of defenders of its own, would help him find his own way in life. He remained there in the care of his father's relatives, while his mother returned to Rabanastre to rejoin the fight. Though their parents would visit whenever their duties sent them to Eorzea, more often than not Kin was left to figure things out for himself.
Life as an Adventurer [Endwalker]
Kin struggled to settle as he came of age. Though he continued to train with his relatives, nothing truly felt right. Frustrated with his own lack of progress while the battle for liberation continued at home, Kin signed on with the Adventurers' Guild in the hopes that a challenge would push them in the right direction. By the time they started to finally find their footing, the Garlean Empire crumbled and Dalmasca won back her freedom from the IVth Imperial Legion. Though he celebrated the victory, it felt bittersweet to be so far away from everyone he loved who helped make that happen.
He has remained in Eorzea since, enjoying the occasional visit from loved ones as he waits for the day he can finally go home.
